Bairnswear 68.  At last! Here is a gorgeous layette fom the 1930's and this pattern is for sale, not just a photocopy (although you can have lovely photocopy for £1.99!) This pattern has a stunning shawl, easy pattern, cute little retro bonnet and dress with underwear and bootees to match all knitted in 3ply pure wool. The shawl takes 13 oz or 7 x 50gm balls or modern 3ply, the dress and bonnet 2x 50gm balls of modern 3ply (makes them a little smaller, therefore more suitable for new-borns - have ago is easier than it looks!

Bestway 2169. Another stunning little bonnet so typical of the 20's and 30's. 6 months to3 years sizes in this pattern knitted in angora or 3ply baby wool. There is also one with a fair Isle border for the older child 2-3 years.  The angora one takes 2 x balls of Fuzzy Wuzzy (1/2 oz balls) or 1 x ball of Jaeger (20gms) see wool for sale for angora, vintage and modern.  Pattern is in fabulous condition.

Bestway 2346.  The one everybody has been asking for! Blankets galore! 6 blankets to knit in 3ply, 4ply, kwiknit, and double knitting. One of them is in crochet.  The brushed rug is accomplished by brushing, after working with a teazal brush (available from a craft shop or from us). A few nicks and general wear but in good condition for its age - late 40's probably.

Bestway 2388.  This is a cute littlle pattern, these Bestway were such good value for money!  Here we have two matinee sets plus a pram blanket. to fit a 19-20 inch chest (birth to 6 months) knitted in modern 3ply pure wool will be newborn to 3 months. Pattern is in wonderful condition for over 60 years old!

Bestway 2705. Here we have a stunning bonnet pattern for that really retro look! This pattern is in super condition and the bonnets will fit 12 to 24 months in 3ply. If knitted in pure new 3ply wool they will com up a little smaller and fit from 6 months (depending on babies head size!)  I have knitted them in 2ply modern pure new wool and they fitted a new born. This issue from the 1940's was reissued several times in 1950's - you can see why it was so popular - fabulous pattern.

Bestway 3437. These Bestway designs are so very collectable, so pretty just to look at on a wet afternoon! I have hundreds of them and it is a real joy when I find one in lovely condition that I can sell on.  This little matinee and cardigan I actually knitted for my baby sister in the late 1950's when I was only 11years old! This particular pattern is in fabulous condition and knits up small enough for today's newborns.  It uses Quick Knitting which has no real equivalent today but try 4ply if you are a loose knitter or double knitting if your tension is a little tighter - make a tension square as described at the beginning of the pattern to see. A good substitute for Quick knit is a full round wool (if you compare wool strands you will see what I mean. Quick knit was lighter and looser spun than 4ply or DK at the time.) Occasionally I find vintage QK look on the "wool for sale page" (see menu on top of page) This pattern is from the 1950's

Patons 605. One of the rarer patterns for little boys. These were called play suits, buster suits or pants sets in the 1950's - the jumpers were often very cute. File holes in this copy otherwise nice.

Patons 687 Booklet.  Stunning Australian booklet with fabulous layettes and shawls. Two complete layettes including vest and shawls knitted and a crochet shawl, matinee in crochet. The layettes consists of carry coat, matinee jacket, frock, bonnet, bootees, mittens and matching vest, one has a shawl.  Booklet has 20 pages and is in stunning condition. No date but probably originally issued in the 1950's.

Patons 729. Smashing little jumpers for smart boys. Really different, really retro! Knitted in 3ply, 4ply and double knitting. One pattern has biro marks in the margins, wear to cover.

Patons 6292: Fabulous pattern, rare! Lined layette with super double shawl.  The pattern can be knitted in 3ply, minus the lining or with a 2ply lining. From the late 1960's this pattern is in suberb condition.
