Very simple designs, with that exclusive look, it suggest to finish edges with simple crochet edging, but this is not necessary, look very nice without.

Emu 591: Great vintage knitting pattern for little girls jumper from the 1950s with or without fair isle. To fit 20, 22, 23 and 24 inch chest worked in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply as this is nearer old 3ply weight. Pattern is in good condition.

Emu 800:Pretty vintage knitting pattern for babies layette from the 1950s. There are instructions for dress, jacket, bonnet, mitts, bootees and cape, all knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply for this size which is 19" chest, dress 15", cape is 21" all lengths can be made longer, but don't forget to add more wool if yo do this. To make a smaller set then use modern 3ply and size smaller needles. Pattern on the dress can be repeated on the cape if wished. Nice versitile pattern. See picture below for cape and  mittens and bootees. This original pattern has punch hole to the side, but does not interfer with instructions. Clean and nice pattern for over 50 years old.

Emu 801: Rare, beautiful vintage baby knitting pattern from the 1950's for a long or short dress matine jacket, bonnet bootees and mitten, ideal for christening or coming home from hospital.  To fit 18" chest in baby 3ply for new born size use modern 3ply for 16" chest or second 18" use modern 4ply. Pattern is showing signs of wear, with crease across the centre, but is sound and clean.

Emu 843: Beautiful vintage knitting pattern for layatte for baby from early 1950s. Instructions for shawl  (45inches square) in vintage 3ply (try modern 4ply) and dress, bolero, hug-me-tight, bonnet and bootees and mitts all to match to fit 20 and 21 inch chest- lovely set with a truely retro look. Work in modern 3ply for a smaller size. I made this for my grandaughter in modern 3ply pink merino and on 11 (3mm) and it fitted her to come out of hopsital - I worked an angora trim in white contrast at edges - away from face though - I madee a turn back brim on the bonnet and trimmed the edge of  that. Very simple two row pattern. Dont forget the tension square.

Emu 873: Stunning vintage knitting pattern from the 1950s. This one is for hooded jacket, hug-me-tight and bonnet with frogging decoration. This is another one from my collection of over 7000 baby patterns from 1870-1970. 1 will be putting more up over the next few months. These very useful leggings have a bib top, that can be worn with or without shirt or tee shirt and the cardigan over the top, the cardigan had a pretty yolk top - very easy to work. *Emu 978:Another gem of a vintage pattern from the 1950s. Three little cross over cardigans to fit 19-21 inch chest, dolman style cardigans, one with ribbons. This very retro knitting pattern which was popular in many patterns in the 1950's and 1960's. Quick and easy to knit in double knitting, use 4ply or even 3ply to make smaller sizes. This pattern is ideal for prem or tiny babies due to ease of m ovement for baby and the short waist style. Look pretty over dress, baby grow or romper. I made several of these in the first few days after m y 2nd daugher was born and weighed only 5.5lbs (2.5kg ) as all the clothes I had knitted were to big! I knitted them in 2ply on size 12 imperial needles (2.75mm) to make them small enough.

Emu 8096: Lovely vintage baby cardigan pattern 1960s. Another easy to knit cardigan for baby about 3 months - 6 months (depending on size of baby) to fit 18-20 inch chest. This one is a little dolman cardigan or what I used to call and up and over as it is knitted in one piece, cast on for the back and divide for the fronts at the top of back, the button band (strapping) is knitted seperately. Very quick to knit this one. The lovely thing about this pattern is that you can see how easy it is to use the same pattern for different plys for the same size. You can use double knitting, 4ply or 3ply. By changing needles and wool and casting on different amount of stitches, such a useful pattern. You could always added colour at rib, embroider a motif or introduce a simple lace pattern in a band above the rib - I love these patterns that you can adapt so easily.
