Due to the hard work of washing and drying terry nappies (no tumble dryers) many babies were clean and dry by 12 months old - it was a must for overworked mums in my day! So many dress sets hat these little woolly knickers or cotton covered terry pants which helped with little accidents. I remember the pretty lace covered plastic pants my girls often wore until they were about a year old - just in case! I knitted many of these 1940s patterns from my mother and grandmothers collections in the early 1960s for my girls.
