*Bestway 560: Fabulous vintage FAIR ISLE pixie hood knitting pattern 1940s. This lovely pattern also has instructions for mittens to match hood. Cosy retro set for the coming winter worked in vintage 3ply so try modern 4ply in a tension square and see if yo need to change needles, knitted on 4 needles (or a circular needle if prefered) for mittens but only two needles for hood.

Knitted in vintage 3ply which is similar to modern 4ply, work a tension square to see if a change of needles is required. Cap measures about 18" round head, gloves length including a generous cuff to tuck up a sleeve to keep drafts out, 10" cap knitted on 4 needles (trry a modern circular needle) 1940's

Bestway 1412: Great 1940's knitting pattern for fair ils hat, mittens and socks. Knitted in vintage 3ply similar to modern 4ply try tension square and check if needle chang is required to get the required tension. To fit average head, socks from toe to heel 9.5 inches worked on 2 needles with points at both ends. Pattern in good condition, but minor crease across front and nick at bottom of spine. Knitted in 2 needles through out.

Beret will stretch to 22", the bag is 9" in diameter. The bag is worked similar manner to the beret, is easy and look fabulous when completed. 1940's Knitted on 2 needles.

Knitted on 4 needles, try knitting with a circular needle if you find this daunting - however I find the 4 needles a lot easier and neater than the circular. 1940's pattern in good condition.

fair isle hat knitting patterns Bestway 1229: Lovely vintage knitting pattern for easy fair isle cap and gloves in vintage 3ply (modern 4ply).Cap measures 18" round. Gloves to fit average hand. 1940's These patterns were so popular during the war because you could use scraps to knit them  or you could undo warn garments and make fair isles from them. Wool was so difficult get hold of in colours other than khaki, navy, airforcce blue, black or cream. But many people had odds and ends or old clothes to undo and use up, both baby and childrens as well as adults.So fair isle, stripes and panel designs were very popular - see LADIES FAIR ISLE, MENS FAIR ISLE as well as the BABIES and CHILDREN FAIR ISLE

Quick and easy to knit, great introduction to fair isle as they are knitted on largish needles and a single pair. Pattern has a little wear to front as shown, but sound and clean.
