                                Bed Spreads and Throws
vintage knitting patterns for bed spreads

*Anne Orr 37: vintage book of patterns for knitted bed spreads, with pictures  also includes instructions for edgings and luncheon sets, see below for individual patterns. 1936. Fabulous bedspread patterns. 30 page book All these patterns are suitable for bedspreads, baby blankets, shawls, cushion covers, chair backs, table mats, or throws as they are worked in squares that are sewn together or in strips or in a combination or the two. Work samples in differnt yarns or cottons to see how they turn out for size etc as no tension is given as they are all free size - you can make them as big or small as you like. If worked in thicker yarn or cotton and on bigger needles the squares/strips will knit up quicker. No amounts of yarn are given as this depends on the size. Knit one strip/square and see how much you use then multiply this by the amount of squares or strips you need to make for the finished item. Try a cusion cover first or some similar project and see how this works. These are USA designs and instructions, conversion chart for needles given. The edgings from this book can be used on cushions, shawls, mats, throws, baby clothes etc and are simple and easy to work - experiment in thin and thicker yarns or cottons to find the right one for your project. ( I have hundreds more of these type of patterns, if interested please contact me and I will gladly put more up on site they all come from the 1920-1940s) For chrochet edgings see crochet pages.

vintage rugs to knit

Patons 54R: Vintage knitting pattern for 3 rugs and a STAIR CARPET! Late 1940's. All knitted in Pastella, this was a thick wool and as there is no tension given, just use thick, firm wool and needles that give tight fabric and work the stitch to inch ratio, then you will know how many stitches you need for the width and how many rows for the length. All the rugs and stair carpet ar worked in the same pattern giving a firm flexible fabric, it is suggeted that they be lined with hessian to give stability, but this is not necessary.
