*Patons 1159: Very useful vintage knitting pattern for hat and scarf either knitted or crocheted from 1975. Worked in Capstan and aran type wool. Instructions for adult and child. The knitted set is so simple a child or beginner can knit it in no time at all. It is mainly garter stitch with the odd bit of stocking stitch and in thick wool and large needles - great Christmas project, you could even introduce stripes quite easily to make it bright and finish up odds and ends of wool - if you do this make sure they are the same thickness or ply or the knitting will go out of shape. Patons 1171: Great vintage knitting pattern for 5 styles of winter pull on hat, all easy to knit in Big Ben wool which was similar to chunky and knitted on size old 2, 3 or 5 or 5mm, 6.50mm 7mm needles. There are also instructions for detatchable collar and cuffs. These will knt up very quickly, get ready for next Chrismas early! It does not descrbe the wool but it is knitted on old number 7 (4.5mm) so would appear to be similar to aran or chunky, textured similar to poodle wool or double knitting for the stocking stitch part of gloves. *Patons 2571: How fabulous are these sacrves from 1920/30s there is a range knitted in 2. 3 and 4ply as well as one in angora. Dont forget that vintage 2ply is similar to modern 3ply and vintage 3ply is similar to modern 4ply and the vintage 4ply will be the same as modern double knitting. Patons 3157: Fabulous ladies knitted hat pattern form the 1930's. Knitted in wool cord, this was a round tightly spun wool. It is essential when knitting this pattern to have the work knitted tightly to maintain a stiffness to the fabric so that it keeps it shape. It is knitted on 10 needles with a tension of 6 stitches to the inch over garter stitich. This pattern illustrated is the Norma style. Sirdar 1051: Great vintage knitting pattern from 1940's for ladies skull caps.All knitted in vintage 3ply, so try modern 4ply and all are to knit average size head, amounts rerquired a bit vague refering to large or medium ball of wool but all van be knitted in less than 50g of modern 4ply, do tension squre to see if you need to drop a size in needles. Design A with the leaves at th crown is knitted on 4 needles but all the others are knitted on 2 needles.
