*Argyll 136: Unusual, very elegant vintage knitting pattern for a waistcoat in the long line that is so fashionable now, 1940's pattern in great condition, a small nick at front edge near bottom. Clean and sound.  It says it uses double knitting 3ply, dont be confused this is a type of double knitting, just a little thicker than some of the modern yarns DK yarns, work a tension square to make sure you use the right size needles to get your size. To fit 33"-34" bust.

Bairnswear 309: This is a fabulous vintage pattern, great for skiing or other winter pursuits. Vintage 4ply is used so you will probably find modern double knitting will work just as well, try a tension square first and change needles if necassary. The bobble pattern is quite easy and very effective. 34" bust but if you knit it in double knitting on size 10 and 8 imperial size needles (3.25 and 4mm)it will make up a little larger.As pattern is rather fagile it is offered only as a photocopy and a pdf.This one is probably from the 1930's or early 40's

Bestway 908: Isn't this fabulous? War-time pattern for the girls in the W.A.A.F - my mother was a driver in air force during the war and instantly recognised this pattern - every girl knittied in those days, even their stockings and underwear if you wanted to keep warm in chilly billets. This one is to fit a trim 32-34 inch bust. (easy to enlarge, just add a few stitches at each side to make up width - work a tension square first to establish how many stitches you need per inch or knit in a thicker ply)

Bestway 1329: Short or long sleeved jumper with collar. knitted in 3ply to fit 32-34"  bust. Try using 4ply or double knittong to creat a larger size. Adjust needle size and work a tension square in chosen wool, work out how many stitches to the inch then multiply these to fit your bust measurements.  Pattern has a rib body so allow for slight stetching of fabric once knitted. Bestway 1628: Although this is for teenage school girls I have included here as it can be knitted in 4ply or double knitting and made large.  Ideal for the coming Tennis season. The measurements states 28" streaching to 33" bust knitted in 3ply on size 12 (imperial) so if you used 4ply and size 10 would be a couple of inches larger and again in double knitting on needles 8 (imperial) it would be bigger still. This little top is knitted on 4 needles, so you could try knitting it on a circular needle. 1940's

Emu 267:  Fabulous vintage knitting pattern for a little jumper knitted in angora - tension is 7st to 1 inch on size imperial 9.  As most angoras vary, it is wise to make a tension square first. See wool pages for angora for sale.  You can also substitute 4ply for angora, again a tensions square will tell you whether you will need to chang needles size. You could use a modern angora mix of the right ply.1950's

Marriners 288: Lovely elegant twin set with fancy border at seges of cardigan and at neck of short sleeved jumper. Sizes 38"-44" bust, good generous sizing. With stylish long rib and set in shoulders for that tailored look, you cannot go wrong with this pattern. In vintage 3ply, try modern 4ply - always work a tension square and adjust yarn and/or needles to get correct tension for your size. Always remember to allow for extra wool if changing neddles or ply.

Marriners 403:  Stunning 1950's set - ideal for those summer parties teamed with silky pants or swirly silk skirt. To fit 34-38 inch bust Wool suggested is Silver Dew which looks very like an angora/wool mix in 4ply - try tension squares of modern mix yarns - Debbie Bliss or Noro make some interesting yarns - or try our Jaeger 4ply Angora/wool mix in white or yellow - samples can be sent to work tension square.  Tension is 6.5 stitiches ans 8.5 rows to the inch on size 9 needles across stocking stitch. Guipure lace can be bought at most dress fabiric shops or antique markets - or you could use silk embroidery and ribbon straps - be daring and NO straps!!

Marriners 411: Smooth and elegant, this little jumper with 3/4 sleeves or long with fancy raglans. Insructions for square or a round neck are given. Knitted in Silver Dew which was a fine, soft 4ply from the 1950's and 1960's. An angor/wool mix or wool/mohair mix or fine 4ply in acrylic might work well. Knitted on 12 and 11 imperial needles or 2.75mm and 3mm. Size 34"-40" Work a tension square t see if needles or ply need to change.Pattern has a crease to centre, with a few nicks to sides, but is clean and sound. 1958

Marriner 462:  Cosy spring jacket knitted in Golden Dew, looking at the tension, this is probably equivelent to 4ply but try a tension square and see if double knitting might work on needles suggested. A size up in needles will give a bigger size.Pattern is well used with a crease and some biro notations at the top of page 3 other wise sound and clean.
