Patons SC61L: lovely vintage fuzzy wuzzy was used in this pattern, but as it is rather difficult to get hold of you could use any othe other vintage or modern angoras.. This pattern is in sizes 32-42 and takes between 11 and 14 half ounce balls (about 14g in half ounce balls of original fuzzy wuzzy) other vintage angora came in 20 or 25 g balls from the 1980's (Jaeger) and modern comes in any size you would like! Patons SC61-2: This little scarf is made from just 1oz or 28g of angora and is just right to tuck into your colar on a wintery day or clip with sparkly broach to keep of the chill with an evening dress or jumper. it measures 29", but length is adjustable. This is on the back of the above pattern.

If you knit in mordern 4ply it will probably knit upto a size 36" but try a tension square first and change needles if necessary. Patons 343L: 1940's pattern in angora 34-36 inch. Lovely pattern in good conditon, back suggests could be knitted in 3ply to gain similar results. Beryl was a 3ply angora, Fuzzy-wuzzy was a 4ply equivilent. Patons 345L: Great vintage knitting pattern for sleevesless top with square neck from the 1920s. There are also instructions for a v neck sleeveless jumper as well included both to fit 34-35inch bust. Worked in a wool called Lorna - not sure of the ply but knitted on 10s (3.25) for rib and 6s 5mm for main part. Tension is 5.5 stitches to the inch with the larger needles over stocking stitch if this helps.As the fabric appears quite drapey then may be in modern 4ply - try this in a tensiion square or modern double knitting. photocopy £1.99 pdf £1.50 |

Patons C465L: Another clasic angora cardigan. The same advise applies as given for PatonsSC61. This cardigan fits 34 -38 bust and is short waisted with 3/4 sleeves - both can be lengethen, but remember to buy more wool if you are planning to do that! I think this little cardigan is very up to date despite being published in the 1950's - retro is so much the look of this season. Sleeves can be made shorter to be more flattering and still keep in era - my mother said they often made shorter sleeves as the wool was so scarce and often unpicked from last years jumpers - or from a big sisters! Patons 867: Vintage knitting pattern for ladies summer jumper from 1940s. This one is for 36 inch bust and worked in vintage rimple wool (a textured yarn simplar to poodle wool of the 1950s) it has slight wriggle in the strand and usually knitted as modern 4ply. Work a tension square (tension for this yarn is 6.5 stitches worked over smooth fabric on size 9 imperial needles (3.75mm). This can be worked in any other 4ply. And the sleeves can be made shorter. Patons 2917L: Fabulous 1930s knitting pattern for dress in thick double knitting, must do a tension square for this one and change needles to suit as the fabric must be quite firm to keep its shape- in the materials it asks for 6 glass rings! These are to hold the laces at the front and can easily be substituted in brass or similar. The length is 42" but can be knitted to any length, but to be authentic remember that dresses had returned to almost ankle length (mid calf at the very least) again by the 1930s, with the long slender lines seen here.
