*Patons 1117: Great vintage pram cover knitting pattern in Big Ben, which was a thick wool similar to chunky. The wool was sold in hanks, I am sorry I cannot remember what the hanks weighed. The pram cover with satin ribbon edges measures 24"x 30", the de-luxe travel rug, check one measures56" square and the brushed cover in stripes is 46" x60" and might be a good one to see how the weight of the wool works out as you can always add more stripes or less, if you have not allowed enough. The plain on is also brushed and measures 24" x 30". Wool shops used to brush knitted garment for you, but of course that no longer happens, but you can buy a teasel brush and do it yourself, I am trying to get hold of some, is is easy, if bit labourious to complete, giving a nice effect, but you do need to use pure wool - merino, alpaca, llama, blue faced leicester etc to get the desired effect. Pattern is in good used condition from the 1950's.

*Patons 2251:  Great vintage knitting pattern for two shawls, both knitted. The Blue one is 48" x 48" knitted in vintage 2ply, as this is a 1972 pattern, you may need to use modern 2ply, which patons still make, see Coats on the links page for nearest stockist, but try a tension square in modern 3ply just to make sure that it is not a better yarn to use. Both shawls are knitted to the same tension and in the same wool. But the white one is 50" Square. There are puch holes at the spine, but they do not interfer with instructions, the pattern is clean and in good condition.

shawl knitting patterns

Patons 2723: Great  1920's knitting pattern for blankets and covers, blanket wool is used in some patterns, work tension square using double knitting and change needles to get correct tension or try chunky or a thick wool to get size and texture required. There is cot cover measuring 36" x 27", one measuring 46" x 30",  35" x 46 the pram rug only gives a guide to tension required for size. Brushing used to be done at wool shops, now you need to use a brushed thick wool or brush yourself. Use a tessel brush, available at some craft shops, make sure the fabric is closely knitted - a tight even knitted blanket and brush with the little brush to achieve the desired effect. This method can be used on shcarves, hats, mittens and other items of clothing. i am tring to source som tessel brushes for these projects at this moment.

This vintage knitting pattern is from the 1960's and the covers are knitted in quickerknit and double knitting, work a tension square but you may find that they both knit up well in modern double knitting with just a change of needles. The dark blue one is the crochet one and measures23.5" x 30" and the other one is also 23" x 30", but is knitted. The two little bunnies are crocheted and are 9" high. The pattern is in good used condition, with name at top and wear to spine which is plit at bottom for a few inches. It is free of marks inside and sound.

Patons 6187: Vintage knitting pattern for baby shawls from 1969 knitted in vintage 2ply so try tension square with modern 3ply and see if a change of needles will work out just as well. There are two designs one with garter stitch centre, the other with a patterned centre. They both measure 48" square, note that if you use pure wool (patons still do a 2 and 3ply pure wool you use less ounces than if you use synthetic yarn. An oz = approx 29 grams. This pattern has a crease across its centre but is clean and sound.
