Patons 6699: Fabulous wartime pattern for all that a man away in the services could need - woman knitted not only for their own men folk but for others who had now female relatives. Even young girls at school knitted mittens, helmets, socks and scarves for sailors, airman and soldiers. This one is called Service Woolies for Air, Land and Sea. Garments call for double knitting vintage 4ply, and vintage 3ply - something for everybody. Just what a group that does displays or re-encatments needs. There are instructions for the aero cap and jumper (40" chest) on the cover as well as waistcoat (37" chest), cardigan (37" chest)3 different scarves, mitts, fingerless mitts, gloves, hospital stockings, with and without feet, knee cap cosies, body belt, heeless bed socks, fishermen's sea boot socks, socks with French heel and flat toe, socks with Dutch heel and flat toe, bed socks, helmet with cape peices, ribbed balaclava, sprts cap, sleeing cap. 20 pages of little gems, easy to knit, great set peices for ladies in display groups to be knitting in the airforce blue, kahki green, navy blue, grey or black. All female members would be sitting knitting for the war effort, when ever they had time to spare from family knitting. Many knitted for orphans and destitute familys that had been bombed out or lost members of their family in battle. The covers are seperated, small pen notation on front cover, but the contents are in good order, 70 years old!
