It suggest Macramé twine, but experiment with knitting cotton, no tension square is given but it will not take long to work a few pieces to see how it will work out in different cottons.

This is a super pattern with instructions for a sweet little hot water bottle cover, cot cover with satin ribbon, shawl, sleeping bag and bootees and mittens- great little gifts for new born baby, also instructions for toy ball and rattle! Shawl and bootees and mitts are in vintage 3ply and measures43 square inches, all other are knitted in what was termed thicker wool - before double knitting was common. Work tension square on needle size stated and change if needed with modern double knitting yarn. These items would be great for that retro feel at a Christmas Bazaar.
